Hi guys , I have a International 140, from the serial number I
believe to be 1967, the casting codes are "N" what year would
that be ? Where can I find a listing for casting coed dates ?
thanks for any INFO

"140" was built '58 thru '79.

Ask "GOOGLE", there's hundreds of sites with IH date code info.

Looks like "N" does indeed = 1967.

Keep in mind, that is the date the individual part was cast, and the cast parts were stored and "SEASONED" for a period of time after being cast, before being machined.

BOB - I've been involved in machining castings for 30+ years, yes, castings move after machining, best to let them season or stress relieve before machining. But with the volume of castings IH had to mold, cast, and machine to keep their assembly lines going they had to machine some castings unseasoned. Or stress relieve castings before the final machining.

When Farmall in Rock Island still had their foundry I suspect there were lots of machine finished castings only a day or two old put on tractors on the assembly lines. Some castings it would make no difference if they relieved themselves.

When I was in production control in a gear machining dept. at Farmall, we all knew what gears had secondary operations, how long the heat-treat cycle was, and how long the set-ups took on the last machining operations and when the last trip thru the gear lab was.
