Cub leaking hydraulic, more info

With some purple grease remover and the pressure washer I have a better look at the hydraulic unit. It has not been brazed or welded. I
removed the odd clamp they had on there. So it's either the gasket underneath it or possibly the spools leaking or both. I think it's probably the
gasket. It looks like I take out the four bolts and lift it off ? Where can I get gaskets ? Got the hood off and really cleaned her up. Looks like the
head has been welded and might be leaking. Are heads hard to come by ? I'll look for the Steiner video on repairing it. Dick

The bolts in the images you posted look loose. Before tearing it apart, I would see if they were tightened to the bolt torque from a chart, or manual. If loose, the leak will be moderated or stopped. Jim

To me it looks like it's leaking from the brazed area. Leaking was definitely a problem in the past, as evidenced by the cobbled-together strap deal going over the top of the unit.

Someone hit something VERY hard with the front blade (don't call it a "dozer" because that gives people the wrong idea). That braze repair will NEVER hold up to the front blade, and any repair you make will just break again the first time someone tries to push some snow with it.

I would follow Jim Becker's advice and replace the hydraulic unit with a good used one. There are lots of them out there and a few places that specialize in Cub parts, that will sell you one in good shape for not too much money.

Yup cleaned up like you have it, it done't look like it was brazed now. In the greasy pictures it has a brazed look to it. Must be the color or light on it. I still thik it is a crack somewhere in the casting though. It is not uncommon for people to use them much harder than they should with blades on the front. With no frame the castings don't take abuse to well.
Just like if you get it stuck in mud or snow pull from the drawbar whether it is front or back pulling.

The hydraulic housing is not welded. I do not see any cracks? I removed the added strap. The four hold down bolts look loose because I
loosened them. I plan to remove the housing and examine it. If not cracked I will order gaskets. Someone welded the head up but looks like it
has a hairline crack. I am going to grind the crack out and try J B weld. If that does not work, I'll try to find a used head. For the raffle we will
leave the Dozer blade on. Dick
