International 450/400 Diesel Fuel injector

A neighbor has a 450 International with a 400 diesel engine that was swapped some time ago that needs one fuel injector. He was told 400 fuel injectors are no longer made. Is this information correct? He and his daughter have a very small dairy operation and this tractor is their daily user. I'm trying to search out what is available for them.

Any help here would be much appreciated.

that can be very true as any parts for the gas start dieels are getting rare. check out the tractor wreckers for used ones. why cant that one be repaired? check on injectors from the 450 to the super wd6 quite sure they are the same .

Or try a Diesel Repair shop, they still have parts for the pumps.

The 450 used a different injection nozzle. Either could be in that engine if it was swapped as both types work but need to all be the same kind in an engine.

I'm not sure what the issue is with the failing injector. All I know is the tractor has a miss. I'll ask.

To find out if it is an injector, take the line off the injector when running on diesel. If compression shoots out of injector, you know darn well it is a problem . If it does not, it might possibly be the problem but not very likely as it would have to be plugged or stuck. Even feeling the line close to injector to see if it is hot works sometimes. I have seen injection lines so hot it took the paint off half way back to the pump due to failed injection nozzle. Only on the later style injection nozzles though and in different engines.

If after following Pete's advice and you determine it is an injector problem, parts can still be had for either IH injector type if you look hard enough. I just found and bought four new "cracker valves" last year for my 450 open face style injectors.

Do the injector lines come in at 9 o'clock or at 10:30 on the injector bodies?

Does it miss all the time, or just when it is started? It could also be a change over valve sticking or leaking. Our MD will miss if they stick open or do not seal.
