Fuel Issue - 1976 IH 444 (Gas Engine)

I am having an issue where my tractor suddenly starts sputtering like it is starving for fuel and dies. On a new day when it has not been running, it will start fine and run perfectly normally for about 20 minutes, then suddenly it will sound like the engine is running out of gas. I put in the clutch and play with the choke and it may or may not start running normal for a few seconds and then repeat the same problem. If it completely dies, I can restart it and the same problem happens again in a couple of seconds. I have cleaned out the fuel bowl and the fuel bowl filter and the screen going into the carburetor. Does anyone have any ideas and suggestions?

Thank you.

Phil has it. Coil. Feel the coil when it stops and if it is hot, it has failed. Probably a 12v coil for use with a ballast resistor. Jim

Hello,

Thank you to everyone for their response. It looks like IH no longer makes the part and I got one from a part store and I do not thinks it's correct. Does someone have the part # for the coil and external resistor? Do I need to replace the resistor too?

Thank you.
