IH tractor on Kinze Planter

A friend of mine is looking at upgrading his planter and going to a 12 row, 30 inch row width, model 2200 Kinze. He is looking at pulling this planter with either a 66 series IH tractor or an 86 series IH tractor. This planter does not have any liquid fertilizer attachments or tanks. It is a basic planter with finger units for corn and brush meters for soybeans. There are no added hydraulic needs for this planter. It is as simple as raising and lowering, as well as running the markers. I strongly suggested to run duals on the tractor. The topic of hydraulic system capacity came up. I am sure if the 86 series tractor is a late model with the PFC hydraulic system, there would be no issue. I am asking if anyone has used/attempted to use one of these planters with the older IH hydraulic systems and what their experience was. I have a 3200 Kinze I run on a 4640 Deere, outfitted with the larger main hydraulic pump, which is used on the newer 55/60 series Deere tractors. The only added hydraulic function I have is an orbit motor driven pump for liquid starter fertilizer. The tractor has proven capable in handling this planter. I know little about the hydraulic system capabilities of the 66 series and non-PFC 86 series IH tractors, which is why I am asking the question to this group.

IIRC the minimum you can expect from a 66 or pre-PFC 86 series tractor is 2000PSI @ 12GPM. I believe there is a 17GPM pump available as a replacement.

For just raising and lowering a 12-row planter with just row units, it should not be a problem. Heck a Farmall H should be able to handle that.

I've run my 3000 Kinze with my 1066. Your friend may have to adjust the flow control block on the planter for the markers to get them to work properly. See the operators manual.
