340 update

Got the 340 running and now working on the seat
Got the new seat spring mounted now all I need is a seat pan. Also, I'm missing the quadrant for the fast hitch control leaver.

Glad you got her running! I have a little 240 and it's a fun little machine to get back into the fields. Was going to use it for mowing this year and then realized the PTO shaft is bent. Waiting on parts. I really enjoy this series of IH, they have great style that trends modern compared to the letter tractors, but doesn't feel as poorly dated as some of the later stuff IMO.
 
Could a 340 transmission be swapped for a 240 transmission ? Do the differentials have the same bolt pattern ? The engines are the same casting. The reason I ask is we have a 240 that is a nice tractor but due to the families emotional attachment to it, I can't get rid of it and if I could get a Independent PTO like on a 340, I'd swap transmission and go to using it instead of it taking up space in the barn.
 
I'm not sure. Plenty you can do without independent PTO though. Or... just swap the badges and ship the 240 down my way. I won't tell.
 
No, it can't, and it is not necessary to dredge up and hijack SIXTEEN different old threads, many in unrelated forums, to ask that SAME question.

Do you see anyone else doing that? No, because that is not how you behave on a forum, and it's a lot of unnecessary work that only serves to alienate you from the people you want to help you for free.

Start your own new thread, ask the question once please, and leave it at that.
