Ih 656 update

Got my tractor home tonight! The fuel tank was full of crud and was plugging up the sediment bulb. Cleaned that and the carb up. It needs some work. I can't wait to hear into it. I'm currently off work due to chemo so this will keep me from going crazy. My dad was really unimpressed with this purchase, however after driving it, he is all smiles. The hydro is strong. But the lever needs some adjustment. It goes forward when in neutral and doesn't move fast in reverse. Other than that a tune up and some wiring work and she will be ready!

Andrew do yourself a favor and look on ebay for a 544/656 hydro troubleshooting guide. It WILL save you some money!!!
 
I am more of a "green" guy than a "red" guy, but I have a few IH tractors I really like. I have my grandfather's H Farmall, and I bought a Super M Farmall (Stage II) as well. I want to sometime get a Super H Farmall (Stage II), but that will have to wait. I have a 86 Hydro, just a newer version of what you have and I really enjoy having that tractor, other than the cold blooded engine. I use it on a front end loader and a snowblower. I don't think I could ask for a more ideal machine for those tasks. My wife finds it so very easy to use when she needs to do something with that tractor, too.
 
No 3 point or fast hitch? I see the rock shaft arm behind the seat has nothing connected. If the rock shaft works one of those would be a nice add on. Mind telling what she set you back?
 
I paid 1749 for the tractor. Found a good 3 pt at a salvage yard about an hour away. Got those for $300. So I'm in it for 2049. The rims and tires are rough. But that same salvage yard had a matched set. Thinking about grabbing them now that I know the hydro is good.
 
Reading the operator manual, trouble shooting guide and maybe the service manual could make downtime go faster. IT brand service manuals don't have a lot of depth compared to most factory manuals, but they a a great overview to get familiar with a new machine, and the price is right. Have a speedy recovery!
