Radiator question for Farmall M

On my M, there is a metal overflow tube from the radiator neck that goes behind the radiator and just below the tank on the left-hand side, the overflow goes between the tubes in the core and then I don't know where it ends.

Where does that tube go? I can't see what happens to it even when I peer in there with a flashlight.

The reason I am asking, besides my own curiosity, is that my radiator either started leaking this weekend or the overflow dumped antifreeze out since the source of the flow appears to be from the front, very near where the overflow tube seems to terminate. After it cooled I added a gallon of coolant and then ran it again for 20 or 30 minutes and there was some antifreeze seeping out, so I suspect I have a leak, though it was again near where the overflow appears to terminate. I have not pressure tested it, but will do so once I find a tester.

If the rad is filled to the edge of the cap it will push out coolant. One inch over the cores (looking into the fill hole) ia full. I thought the tube ran down to the bottom of
the core on the back side. Jim

Thanks Jim. I probably overfilled it after it cooled off. I'll check and see. The tube definitely disappears between the channels in the core, and doesn't appear to go to the bottom. Hoping it was just an overflow and not an actual leak.

Dry it out and keep an eye on it.

The coolant will seek its own level over time, as long as it stays above the fins in the radiator when cold, there is plenty of coolant in the system

Tube should run all the way down side of radiator so any over flow will go to the ground. Easiest fix is rubber hose secured to end of over flow tube. You could cut the tube off at a convenient spot to accomplish this.

This how the tube is suppose to be. Theres a notch in the shroud for it to poke through. Could be the tube on yours is broken higher up than it should be.

Thanks for all the responses. It's all dried out and I have the level just above the core. I am going to do some plowing later today, so I will see how it does. I'll post a photo of how my tube is oriented. It does not go to the bottom of the radiator. It has an nice right angle bend and seems to terminate in between some fins in the core. Probably was a modification by a previous owner after the longer tube was damaged or some such.
Thanks again for the help.
