1456 battery box lids

I bought new battery box lids and tried to put them on today. When you tighen them up the lids slide off the battery. Whats the secret or do I have bad lids. Thanks for any help. Ed

The one side is open and the other side has a lip, right??

The lip is on an angle.

And the draw bolt pulls on a angle, so make it pull against the lip.

They are two covers 3E and 4E most after market might be one fit all I ran into that years ago

So there for different design's on the battery top's ?? If so that's one way to make the customer's to buy Prestolite battery's !

You need the front lip to set on the edge of the battery. The front edge should fit right over the front of the battery. Front in this case , I am referring to the close side standing looking at it from the side of the tractor. The back side is open to the fuel tank. We have changed all those tractors over to Group 31's with the stud on top. Then just widened the right pan to hold the battery. Solved the short life battery problem along with the corrosion problems.
