Hi folks,

I have a Farmall Super C, 1954 model. It will start and run but once I apply work; ie, lift the bucket full of something, drag a harrrow, use a ground drill to drill post holes the engine bogs down and looses power and forward momentum.

I think the air and fuel mixture is not set correctly. Is there a initial setting I should set each screw to and then adjust with fine movements from there? For example screw the air screw down all the way and then turn same screw out a 1/4 of a turn and the same on the gas?

I have attached a picture of the carb and the two screws with arrows that I'm talking about.

the outer thumb adjusting screw is the main fuel. turn it out about 2 1/2 - 3 turns out. the other one is the idle mixture screw . i find about 3/4 turn out is usually where i have them. screw each one in lightly till it seats and actually note what it was set at. then u have a starting point. that particular C carburator i have not worked with. but these carb settings are a good starting point. if you cannot get it to run under load after adjusting ... clean the carb.

Hold the brakes with it running and in gear and have someone see if the rod between the governor and carburetor moves to increase the throttle. Rod may not be adjusted to correct length or governor is not working.
