Used bearings

I always see used bearings for sale.Who in their right mind would go to the trouble of tearing a machine or tractor apart,would buy used bearings to put it back together with is beyond me?

At one time bearings were pretty cheap, like wheel bearings. Things have changed and good steel like used in bearings is expensive. I would use good used bearings in some places. If good quality they might be better than the new foreign ones from the supplier.

If inspected well, or from a known source, they are at least proven. Not like used oats. Jim

some of those used bearings are no longer available new, unless you happen to find some NOS, and good used parts are a way of saving money when your budget is squeezed pretty tight before your equipment broke down, not everyone has money to spare.

Nothing wrong with a good used bearing. SKF Tech told me there are2 major cause of bearing failure, dirt and over lubrication. Over lubrication usually associated with greased type that run at higher speeds. I'll take a good used bearing over a chink one any day. Just saying
