Block casting number is 359026-r2. The metal slab shows 4058 s , the engine that came out of it was a c281
 
That's the center housing casting number. To check for serial number on that housing being for a 400 or a 450, look on the other side back of the serial number plate and down lower around the levers area and running up and down for the date code. If it has a number for month and day then the letter Z the housing is a 400. If numbers end with a B or C a 450 housing. Also the T/A operating shaft has a number on the end with two linkage holes, start with # 359 a 400, start with # 366 a 450.
 
Yes some 400 have B codes but not one with the serial number posted. If a 450 that serial was built early in 57 probably the first or second month and could have a B casting or a C casting. Probably a 450 tractor but c-281 replacement blocks are found in 400 tractors and others. Block casting number and engine serial number if it has one would tell.
