AOS-6 Pictures need a manual

I am trying to get ready to fix up an AOS-6 (Australian Orchard Special) was a modified W-6 with an AC-248 engine. Introduced June 3, 1953, it was built until July 1959.
It has taken me a long while to get the deal done, but I am now a part owner and it got delivered today

Can anyone direct me to where I can buy a manual?

The engine is locked up, but I knew that, however the left rear wheel is also seized, I assume its the brakes locked on. I would love to have a manual on hand before I dismantle the rear brakes as I need it to roll before I can get it round to the shed.

The serial number plate is not badly coroded and seems to show OS6 SAOSB 5U3

if it has the disc brakes on it... just loosen the 5 5/8 bolts holding the brake cover on and you will have it rolling.

Was the AC engine original equipment? If so, I didn't know that about Aussie IH tractors. For political reasons, for a long time JD was forced to use Perkins engines in their tractors sold in South Africa.

I don't think AOS6 tractors were fitted with disc brakes (could be wrong). Basically it is an AW6 tractor for orchard work. I have a work colleague with an AOS6. He may have a copy of the Owner's Manual - won't find out until Monday. I do have a complete Parts Catalogue for AW6 and AI-6 tractors. Most of the parts are the same. E-mail is open in modern view.

No disc brakes, it looks from the outside like the W6 a Band style brake.
I will have to do the brake before I roll it round to the shed.
I did find a how to video online and now have an idea about how to move forward.
I will have to remove the connecting bar between the steering box arms and the front wheels, to have any chance of removing the brake cover.

This post is a little old but below is a link to a place that sells reprint manuals. The manual shown in the link covers the US version but I would think as far as everything outside of my the engine would be similar if not identical. You might call or email them to see if they have the Aussie verision available. Not trying to edge the guy offering the copy just giving options.

Sorry, that binder book .com I gave the link to was a sales brochure. The Original IH ..Blue Ribbon.. repair manual for a US W6 is GSS-5033 on the binder site. If an 800 number is no cost for you to call the US you could call the number for this site and they could very well be able to supply the manual you need. As far as the oil level I suspect the W6 you have is set up like an M engine wise it has petcocks on the pan you open to check the level.

I have begun to dissmantle the band brake cover to try and free the stuck left brake, looks like I will need to disconnect the steering rod, so I have it soaking in some penetrating oil till tomorrow
Looks like I cropped the photo, that only shows the brake linkage on its way off.

I think you should be able to extract the brake cover without removing the steering arm with some creative twisting if the cover is not tight against the brake band due to build up of dirt, wasp nests, rust etc. I am not absolutely certain on this, but may be worth a go.

I have been trying gently to remove the brake cover its loose at the rear but still holding quite firm at the front and around the keyed shaft. But time will tell

Sadfarmall, you were right with the steering on full left lock I was able to hammer the brake cover off past the steering rod. So that is a huge step forward.

Any suggestions on what is the best cleaner to use on the brake friction material and its band? Or even what not to put near it?

Tomorrow, I will see if this has freed that left rear wheel.
