300 Utility Questions

I have a 1955 300 Utility I am getting ready to restore. I have several questions and will probably come up with more. I had to replace the hydraulic hoses and I found the hydraulic fill under the seat. I plan to change the engine oil and filter today. Where is the fill and fluid level check for the transmission, rear end (if different), and steering box?
I noticed another thread about difficulty shifting out of gear, I have the same problem, and someone mentioned the Torque Amplifier. I have a model of my tractor and it shows a Torque Amplifier handle connected via a link to a small lever on the left side of the clutch/bell housing area. My tractor has that small lever but no link or handle?

Pictures would be nice.

If you looked for a challenge you found it. The 300u has the worst steering of all tractors I have ever driven and if your steering box is worn out its very pricy to replace or repair.

Yes, I have heard that. Seems to steer pretty good, not much play. Just want to do preventative maintenance to hopefully prevent any problems.

Wow! I would not do anything to your tractor till you get an owners manual that describes where what and
how to service and adjust it. Sounds like it's sat ignorred and neglected for some time, couple more
days wont matter.

BINDER BOOKS. 503-682-9328. Remember, you have an International 300 Utility, not a Farmall rowcrop.
Check their website first to see ALL the manuals available for your tractor. Operators manual, parts
book, and several service manuals. Last order I placed with them they included a nice red 3-ring binder
for the manuals.

Welcome to the forum. The tractor is great. You can determine if the Torque Amplifier is working (or workable) by making an analysis of the TA clutch. Remove the plate (see
video) that covers the TA clutch and see that the TA throwout bearing and TA clutch have all their parts. If they do, and thay are free to move, the lever controlling the TA can
be moved using a piece of pipe to make it operate the TA. Be careful, this requires a moving tractor in low gear. Find a clear place to do this with no obstructions. While
driving at idle in low gear move the TA release lever in the direction of release. As the TA throwout bearing releases the TA clutch, the tractor will slow down about 30%. as it
is moved to its former position it will speed up to the former speed. This test lets you know that it is worth putting a linkage/lever on the machine. Do not continue to use it
using this test method. It will operate as is with no TA just fine, but a TA is a major advantage. If when the lever is moved, the tractor stops in its tracks. just push in the
foot clutch and then release the pipe to its former position. If it stops, the TA one way clutch is bad. If terrible noises are made, the TA unit or clutch is bad. Jim

Thanks, I will check the T/A operation tomorrow and check the T/A clutch access opening for all parts.

Thanks, I will inspect it and test it today are per above suggestion and start looking for lever and components.

Did not get a chance to drive it today, but removed the cover plate, the one way clutch does not want to move either way....maybe that is why they removed the lever. On another note is this the transmission fill near the gear shift lever and fluid level plug below the footrest? Does transmission and rear end share a common fluid supply? I purchase an I&T Shop Service manual, but it does not show this. Thanks

The TA will not move either way when the engine clutch is driving (pedal up) and when in gear. So in neutral and with the clutch
tied down, it should spin by hand toward the clutch pedal side of the tractor. It should not spin away from the clutch pedal side.
The device you are looking at is the TA flywheel and direct clutch. The TA is behind the cover toward the rear of the tractor.
The one way clutch is even farther to the rear at the back of the TA unit. Jim

Thanks, I will check this out. This is my first attempt at restoring an antique tractor (Antique? It is 10 years younger then me. Guess that makes me an antique! LOL) Just so excited to be doing this.

Here are a couple pictures of the TA from a 300 Utility tractor. Some of the housing has been removed to make this cut-a-way much easier to see what's inside.
