Power Steering 350 Utility

I'm at wits ends. I installed a power steering unit from a salvage tractor. I installed the valve body, item 19 in parts listing under power steering attachment. The only way I have power steering is when I operate the fast hitch or a remote. I took out the valves in the block thinking they may be stuck and reinstalled to no avail. We have a 300 Utility on the lot that has power steering and I have everything identical to it. What is going on??? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not 100% sure about the utility tractors but when adding power steering to the RC tractor you need to install this plug so the oil would flow through the flow divider valve.

I took the block off a 300U with factory power steering with no change. Got another block from Bates Corp, no change. This plug is not shown in the parts book.

Where is the flow control valve? If it's in the, what IH calls the Safety block (figure 19) that the pressure line from the PS screws into, I've taken out those valves out and cleaned them with no change. I spent big bucks from Bates Corp and got another block with no change.

The demand pilot could be stuck in both blocks. It has a drilling through the middle, and a screen. Jim

I am not sure if this is your problem. But in my 400/450 parts book, it shows the 1st remote valve is different if the tractor has PS. Seems I heard somewhere that when PS is added, the 1st remote also has to be changed to one that was for a PS tractor. I don't have a 300/350 parts book otherwise I would look this up for you. I also have a 300 Utility with PS and three remotes but not sure where to find the part number on the 1st remote valve. But something else you can look into. Al

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You! Of course the parts book don't show a plug for the Special Attachment Power Steering, but when I went to the Hydra Touch break down, there it was. Now I need a plug part# 364880R1. CaseIH no longer carries them. Does anyone have one? Thanks.

If you removed all the PS parts from a salvage tractor, maybe you could also get the 1st remote to replace yours or maybe just get the needed plug from it. Just a thought. Hope this solves your problem. Apparently the parts book just shows separate valves rather than showing a plug is need on PS tractors. Al

Never thought of removing the remote while I was going through this aggravation until you said there might be a plug in it. I removed the remote and sure enough there it was. The 300U is not a salvage tractor, so I'll have to put it back together again. I did order the plug from Bates Corp (yikes $$$). Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction. Just had to look further in the parts book beyond just the power steering section.
