A friend bought a Farmall h, after he got it home he discovered it had an intermittent knock. It sounded like it was higher up in the engine and not a rod. After trying several things he pulled the pan. While having someone turn it over with a hand crank he discovered that one of the sleeves is moving up and down with the piston about a half inch. Have you ever heard of this and is there a thicker sleeve available? What is a possible fix? Thanks in advance.
 
If head is on the sleeve flange is separated from the sleeve. Could be from being loose in bore or damaged when installed. Lucky sleeve hasn't made it down to crankshaft. If needed a bigger OD sleeve can be made. Need to check block bore first to see if still true and what size it is.
 
Do not operate this engine. If the sleeve manages to get below the top ring, the ring will snap out and force the sleeve down into the crankshaft/rods. LA Sleeve can make a perfect replacement sleeve with the correct OD for a reasonable cost. Jim
 
Yes, the sleeve and flange have parted company , but may well have started from having wrong head gasket which can allow sleeve to move a little bit up and down.

you are right as usual Pete but it seems when you order a gasket now they come as the larger bore set ..one size fits all ? nope but thats what they sell you

I replied to this thread yesterday but it don't show up.......... Pete a lot of gasket kits now offered state they fit all that engine family. C152,C164,C169 AND C175. I don't know how they can sell that without issues
