electronic ignition question

I've decided to put electronic ignition on my 184 Cub. Its real hard to work on the points on that thing with the short distance to the oil filter and the mower attached. I can't get in a good position to see when setting the points and I have resorted to removing the whole distributor to work on anything points related. I have a 12 volt system but haven't looked to see if its a 12 volt coil or 6 volt with a resistor. Just want to make sure I'm getting the correct set up. Do I need to have a 12 volt coil or remove the resistor. Does that kind of info come with the unit. This is my first conversion.

When you order the conversionit will be spacific for 12 volt positive or negative ground. be sure you get the correct one. If you have any questions regarding which coil you will need contact the manufacturer of the EI unit and do what they say, doesn't mean you have to buy their coil, just that you have one that is compatable. If you have any questions about compatability talk to the manufacturer of the unit, don't take the advice of anyone on here or your buddy who should know. I have converted several tractors to EI and would never go back. They just don't get out of adjustment like points do.

When I decided to put one on my 300, after numerous times of cleaning points after sitting 30 days or less to get it to start, I called Pertronix and they told me exactly which system I needed and that I did not need to change the coil. Mine was also 6 volt, so as said, I would call the EI manufacturer and get their recommendations.
