Farmall H fuel tank, etc.

My '46 H sat for about 6 years, outside, without being used. Up until that time it was running fine. The fuel wasn't drained so the tank is a mess with rust inside the tank. I've taken the tank off but need to know what the options are regarding a fuel tank cleaner, liner, kit ,etc. Anything else I should look for?

What precautions should I take before I hook up the battery to turn her over to make sure nothing is froze up?

for the fuel tank, see if you have a local radiator shop that can boil it out and put a liner in it. had one done last summer, it was 125.00 . best money i spent. i have cleaned and put liners in some tanks myself, kind of a pain the the babushka. before you crank it over, at least pull the spark plugs and squirt some automatic transmission fluid in each cylinder and let er set a couple days. try and turn it over by hand, or cautiously bump the starter.

The Red-Kote works just fine, follow the directions. Pour it in, roll the tank up and down and round and round and back and forth, pour out the excess and let her dry, several days. DO NOT use a second time, use the excess stuff for tool handles.

get some lube in those cyl's before attempting to turn it over. the hand crank is the best to use. lots of times if there is rust in cyl's and pistons get moved they are forced into the rust and then good and stuck. if you can feel it sticking just go bits at a time and reverse it back. removing the starter works good too, then can use a cat bar on ring gear.

I have an H parts tractor with a good tank. As said it would be best if you fill cylinders with ATF and let it sit a few days before trying to turn it over. The ATF will free up sticking rings and also help free it up if it has locked up
