Has anyone ever seen or used one of these? There is one at a local auction coming up. Any experience positive or negative? What would
the value be?

956 is a European tractor. The 'American' 856 or 966 are great tractors. Basicly the same tractor except 'tinwork' and engines.407 vs 414.

From what I can gather, a 956 is basically the rear end of an 884/885 combined with a 6-cylinder D358 engine instead of the normal 4-cylinder D268.

Bulletproof engine. Bulletproof rear end. Just not combined together in the USA. If you truly have one in the USA it's a rare bird and if people know what it is and it's in good shape, I'd expect it to sell pretty high as a collector tractor.

No, that is not what it was. I have seen the older 955 in England during the 1970's . You have the engine more or less but the rear end is similar although with some heavier components than the 844 S which was sold in Canada during the mid 1970's. The 844 S had the 4 cylinder D268 and I think the 955 had the D310. The 1055 had the D358 and the 1455 had the DT358 or DT402. The 56 series were just an continuation with nicer cabs similar to the ones used on the 685, 885.
