79 cub hydraulics

I have a 79 cub that runs well but when I engage hydraulics it draws the engine speed down considerably. I drained fluid and filled with hy tran fluid but it still does it. Any suggestions?

You have a gear driven pump that must have fluid move out under pressure and return back to the pump. I would say you have a blockage some where. could be a clogged screen in the unit. Or a piston in your unit under tank is not opening or closing properly. That is causing flow problems with you pump.

Are you saying it only does it while the rockshaft is moving? Does it only happen while the shaft is moving back, but not forward? If so, it is normal. If it happens both ways, you may have an obstruction as already mentioned. If it stays that way all the time the engine is running, you may have a sticking valve or the control lever stops not properly adjusted.
