First, I guess I need to introduce myself. My name is Will. I'm a 36 year old father of two. Last year I was fortunate enough to purchase a few acres of good bottomland, and along with the land came an International Harvester 364. I absolutely love running this tractor. I have to admit though, I'm a little nervous. I'm pretty new to tractors and didn't really have any experience with them growing up. I know I'm going to have to do some work on this tractor to keep it running good. Right now, I know it needs a radiator. I'm currently trying to determine if I need to purchase a new radiator, or try to have the current one re-cored. I think my starter may be toast as well. I have ordered a parts manual that should be in my hands within the week. I'm anxious to hit the ground runnin' this season, and would appreciate any advice from those with more experience and wisdom than I posses.

So here are my questions:
1. What's the take on the radiator? I contacted my local Case IH dealer and they said I would have to buy a radiator for a similar model and modify it to fit my 364.
2. What battery do I need to put in this thing? Anything I need to look out for here?
3. If my starter is bad, where should I look for a replacement?

Thanks in advance! I look forward to learning some new things!

Thanks,
Will

It's a UK 444, which tons were sold in Canada. Try fawcetts in Ontario for parts.

Any decent car battery that fits the battery box should be ample. I've put Walmart batteries in two tractors and at least 3 vehicles. Good luck.

I'd take the radiator to a good radiator shop and have them look at it. I have a 364 diesel and it is a great tractor. If yours is diesel how does it start in cold weather? I put the Bosch pencil type glow plugs in mine and it starts great in cold weather now. The original Champion glow plugs are worthless as far as I am concerned. For one thing if one burns out you lose them all.

As far as a starter I have bought several on flea bay and have had no problems with them. Most starter problems are caused by cranking the engine too long and overheating the starter motor.

Mine is a diesel too. Seems to be a really nice tractor. It's plenty of tractor for my little spot of land. It is pretty stubborn in the cold. If it's below about 55 degrees, I don't even try to start it. I don't think my glow plugs are doing anything. I believe I'll check in to the Bosch plugs you're talking about.

Thanks for the advice.

Thanks, I'll check in to that. I have cranked on it longer than I should have at times. I'm going to check it again before I buy another one though.

Thanks for the information! I'll check fawcetts out.

Just to clarify, you're saying that the model UK 444 is the same as the American sold 364? Or are you saying that the radiators should be pretty similar?

Thanks!

There is a different wiring schematic for the Bosch glow plugs. They are designed to run on 12 volts each while the originals are wired in series so they operate on a much lower voltage at each plug, around 1.5 volts if I remember right. You will see a big difference in starting with the Bosch. Mine will start well below freezing with about 30 seconds of glow plug heat. Keep the ether away from it.

For some reason the UK built 444 was called the 444 in all countries other than the USA. In the USA it was called the 364. Identical tractor. So if you call Fawcett's make sure you specify it is the US 364 and the same as the Canadian 444. There were many of them used here in the small dairy areas of eastern Canada

It's cause IH US had already built a 444 much earlier than the IH UK 444. There are two 444's and they are not the same exact tractor.

I took my 464 gas radiator to a radiator shop and they re-cored the radiator. It cost me about $250, but it was worth it not to have fluid leaking and it was cheaper than buying a new radiator. While I was it it I replaced the hoses and clamps.
