Alternator 1086

Alternator went out on the 1086. (after 12 years). Bought the new one from this site and there is a difference in the wiring hookup from the old to the new. Old one had large wire ( I assume battery) to the casing and two wires on a clip to plug into the alternator.

New one has the connection for the large wire but three contacts where the plug goes. Can I make this work or do I have to trade out to another alternator?

If your new alternator looks like the one in this photo, the third terminal outputs an AC signal to operate an electronic tachometer.

The connector that plugged into your old alternator will plug into the new alternator, just simply won't engage that "tach" terminal, which is fine, that terminal can simply be ignored in your application.

Yeah it will work with your current plug that one will work as internal regulator and if you use the extra and the one that lines up with it is to work for external regulator on older vehicles
