A friend purchased a 1939 Model A that has the serial # tag on the platform in front of the pedals. Anyone know when the serial # was re-located to the seat bracket?
The lights on this one are located on the grill not on the front axle. Any knowledge on why the lights are located there?
Thank you.

I'm not sure what serial number the change was made, but the change from moving the serial number plate from the Pedal Guard to the seat bracket was made very early in the product run, within months of model introduction.

I don't think that lights on the grill was factory, probably a farmer modification.

lite were there cause that's where the owner put them as factory lites weren't there. I have never read just when serial plate was moved just use production serial#s and guess. You didn't sday whether unit had batt start and gen with cut-out and wire going to the mag to ground it and sw mounted on steering post. This tractor could have been rebuilt with starter kit from dealer as they did have a kit to up date to starter with generator and lites along with bell housing flywheel for those who wanted an update with electrics
