F30 electric start

I think it was Harry Lee that made electric start for some of his F30s, by putting a ring gear on the flywheel and modifying the bell housing to accept a starter. Does anyone on here own one them now or have pictures of the starter setup?

Can't help you, but every time I see an F-12/W-12 series with factory electric start, I can't help but think, "Why did they even bother? Why not the F-30's? Those things needed electric start a heckuva lot worse than an F-12!"

Back in 2014 in upstate NY - a fella by the name of Dick Stoyell passed away in spring - had an auction by Goodrich Auction Service
out of Newark Valley , NY at his sale there was a F-30 with electric start - partially restored - modified bell housing - used F-20
flywheel - with Farmall "M" ring gear - clutch setup for F-20 as well ! it worked great - lot of time - but he was older and didn't
want to crank anymore !
I beleive the tractor ended up passing thru Duane Hansford or a friend of his - maybe ended up at Biewers ! Sorry just not sure ??
Maybe Duane will see this post and comment ?? If not and someone else see this - you can modify an F-30 for electric start - takes
time and money like all other projects - its a labor of love !!

no the 12's didnt, neither did the WD40 , as that buggar needed it if it was not tuned up good! lucky mine starts on the 3rd pull most every time. that tiny 12 you hardly feel anything cranking it, and the w-30 is not hard either.
thats why i get a kick out of these guys switching to 12 volt thinking the engine needs to spin fast to start. no, its all in the tune up and magneto , as with the 40 you are just pulling up 1/2 a revolution at a time and when one cyl. fires the next one in order takes over and she is running on gas , after 900 revolutions it switches itself to diesel. i get enjoyment cranking that big thing up. i tryed to crank it just for the heck of it on diesel and you cant crank it over due to compresssion.
kind of an art to get them started.

some w12s did come with batteries/generator/lights and a starter. some just generator and lights...mostly i12s....pg

How hard would it be to modify a Heisler Electric Start for a F-20 to fit a F-30?
Would the F-20 flywheel housing bolt onto a F-30 block? If so, enlarge the hole in the F-20 flywheel to fit a F-30 crank.

I have a F30 with an electric starter. Unfortantly, I cannot get the photo to post on this site. I posted a photo of it on Facebook earlier today. If you want a photo, call me at Three one nine four seven zero six zero eight two
