Farmall 400 PTO actuating lever oil seal

I have a live PTO on my 400 and an oil drip from my PTO actuating lever shaft. I'm pretty sure it is the original but not positive. Is the old seal much thicker and built like a tank? My buddy ran into this with his M. The original PTO shaft seal was cylindrical , where as the replacement was thin. Is this smaller PTO seal I am working with similar? I could not get it to come out. So of course now I have it all buggered up so there is no turning back! Is there a pulling tool or method that someone could help me with? I bought the new seal from a CIH dealership so I know it is the correct one. Thanks!

I am sure that IH manual will say to remove pto and disassemble. I know your feelings but wish I could help rather that to tell you to keep digging.

If you are care full, you can drill a small hole in the seal and screw a sheet metal screw in the hole and pull the seal. If you
have a bearing place near you they can match the seal. Good luck

2 or three holes and sheet metal or deck screws with a flat bar or slide hammer to tug on them. No issue. the smaller seal can be placed so its lip is not in a wear groove. Jim

As said above drill and screws. I just keep turning the screws as they will push the seal out. If you get thin seals should be room for 2 in place of the old wide style.

Three gentle strokes with a slide hammer and the seal popped right out. Definitely an old school seal , probably the original.
A word of caution , don't drill to far like I did. I put small craters in the brass bushing directly behind the seal and there is a snap ring in place to hold the bushing that I luckily missed.
