McCormick Semi-Mount Sickle Mowers

Old F-14

Member
I have a F-14 and an H and have been on the lookout for a McCormick Semi-mount model 25/27 sickle mower. I finally managed to snag a decent one....but it is hydraulic lift. It does have the provision for the bolt on hand lift lever.

Anybody have a hand lift one they can snap a photo of the hand lift mechanism? My H does not have hydraulics (and goes without saying the F-14 doesn't).

Also if by chance somebody has a junk mower with the hand-lift mechanism complete or a whole mower (hand lift or hydraulic) for sale, I'd appreciate hearing from you.

Thanks

Old,
I do not know how OLD you are but as a teenager, I hated our hand lift lever on our F-20. When you were not twisting your back trying to lift the bar, the lever was poking you in the back. We even tried a foot-operated lever with a chain but that was also a pain.
Consequently, I got pretty good at turning corners and not clogging the sickle!

We had a lift lever for a Kosch belly mounted mower on an H and we used it for years that way. The lever was by the left rear wheel so you had to lean over to the left side to raise the bar. It had a spring helper, but still it was a difficult to use. Finally Dad put a hydraulic cylinder on it and what a wonderful mower it was now. Before it was a pain to left the bar when turning, getting unplugged, etc. With the hydraulic lift it was a dream to use. So my vote would before a hydraulic lift.

Here is the diagram from the 25V book. I have one in pieces here from before the hydraulic cylinder was fitted. The handle is far less unpleasant if you have the foot lever to help lift the mower bar and knife assembly.

SadFarmall,

Thank you so much for the diagram. Helps me understand. Looks like the only thing I need is the lever itself. Attached is a photo of mine with the hydraulic setup. Looks like it has the notch plate and the mounting holes for the lever.

Wonder if I could fabricate a lever... Hopefully I can find one.

Thanks!

I may have found some of the lever parts (and in the U.S.!). No idea of the prices, but can find out if you would like.
