Super h hydraulic pump questions

Hi everyone just in the process of restoring my 1954 farmall super h. Got the live hydraulic pump off and have some questions to be asked because I?m not to knowledgeable on these hydraulic pumps. When tractor was running pump seem to be making a knocking/clacking sound. Also when I removed the distributor housing some hydraulic oil came out of the housing where the distributor gear located is this ok?? Are there rebuild kit for this pump? Not sure of the pump quality because I never used the hydraulics because there was no remote lines on Tractor. Any input towards this pump would be helpful. Just don?t want to pay $800 plus for a new one. This pump may be still good.

Common for a well used tractor to have a little oil leak from rear pump seal. Front and rear pump seals can be found and replaced. But if some internal areas are worn to much the seals won't hold. That's a pesco pump. Remove screw in ignition drive coupling and pull it out to see rear seal. If taking pump apart to check, the drive gear needs removed then mounting flange bolts. Has some O rings that may need replaced. Found those in past from places that repair all kinds of hydraulic parts. If you don't see a reason for noise in pump check the gear driving the pump gear for being loose on camshaft or other damage. Also make sure hydraulics are not set to constant pump or a failure of hydraulic unit internally causing unit to be under pressure constantly. Probably not that though if run like that for a while some paint would probably be burnt from pump housing.

The seals are standard but like Slater says, if the pump is worn they probably won't hold.

Unfortunately, there is no practical way to rebuild the pump. The pump gears wear into the housing, and the only way to fix that is to take it to a machinist and have them build it up and machine it back down to original tolerances. Because it's an oil pump everything has to be slick and smooth and flat, or it will last about 10 minutes. By the time you get done paying the machinist to fix the pump, the new pump looks cheap by comparison.
