Started into the cleaning/rebuild of the fuel pump today
Question 1. How Should I go about removing the pivot pin so I can continue cleaning the inside?

Question 2. Is this what the upper part of the sediment bowl is supposed to look like?
It was a total mess, it was filled with a grey sludge and this is how it turned out.
Thanks for all your help in advance.

The shaft should slide out, but it is very common that the shaft could be rusted through the pivot. Soak it till you can get it to move.
The pot metal at the top of your bowl is braking down. New they did not look like that.

Those pins used to be retained with hairpins or E-clips. Your pin is staked in, and, while removable, is not really worth the effort and risk of damage to the pump base. Blow through that hole with a sand blaster and it will clean up real nice. As for the underside of the bowl head, the only possible trouble I see is the sealing surface. If you have access to a lathe, make a washer, about 1/16" thick, the same I.D. and O.D. as the gasket, and glue it in there with epoxy. That way, you'll have a nice new gasket surface, and repair any warpage in the body at the same time. When gluing the washer in, clamp it in there with the bowl so the repair washer will be perfectly perpendicular to the bowl as the epoxy sets up.

Will the screen still seat and function? The last one I did was in a Case that was 17 years newer, lt looked a bit newer. It looks like that shaft was peened over and I don?t think the rebuild kit has a new one in it. Thanks

Yes, the screen will still function if you take a tool like a Dremel and clean up a nice, square corner at the bottom of the spigot for the screen to sit against. For me, the thrill is making the chips fly, I would mill the spigot out of there entirely, and press a little piece of pipe in the hole, large enough for the screen to grip on.

Sand blasting was going to be my next move. I want to remove all the old paint fron the top of the pump anyway. I will also look into the washer and/or grinding tricks. Thanks Fritz
