F-12 Homemade Electric Start

Old F-14

Does anybody have first-hand experience they could share of making a homemade electric start for an F-12.

The homemade type I'm taking about is by putting a flywheel and starter on the shaft in-between the engine and trans.

Most importantly, What flywheel and starter did you use???

Thanks

I spotted one at a show that took advantage the belt pulley. A flex plate/ring gear from a Toyota was bolted to the inside of the pulley. And a pair of starters were attached to a bracket bolted to the frame rail.

The setup actually worked pretty well.

I welded a ring gear to the pulley and made brackets for a Chrysler gear reduction starter. Just got it tacked together today & blocked the clutch & it seems like everything works as it should. I will finish welding before trying to turn the engine.

Doesent make any diff what you use as long as they are matched. Ive seen them and they work just fine.Put them beteween the engine and tranny like you said

No first hand experience but here is an article with picture. https://www.farmshow.com/a_article.php?aid=25005

I did mine about 5yrs ago, I bought a new ford pinto flywheel $24.00 dollars ford starter under $59.00 dollars, had to cut center hole out to fit over back of coupling, made bracket to bolt starter to frame. Works great. Amazing at tractor shows how many people have there head under gas tank looking it over.

DGK, exactly what I was looking for info wise. Not really motivated to go through a junk yard until I find some parts that will work. Why re-learn what somebody else figured out.

What generation Pinto?

Do you have any photos you can share? Thank YOU!

Just go to NAPA an ask for ford pinto automatic flywheel. I will try to get some pictures ,it is at other farm so might be a little bit.
