Hello - have a question on bore size in a 1941 H . had #3 cylinder stuck - so i got the piston / rings out ( the rings were rusted to sleeve and stuck in piston lands ) the sleeve below the piston didnt clean up after honing and so I remved that sleeve --- my question is before I order parts from this site is on measuring the bore in cylinder block to make sure i order the correct parts .. the bore of the cylinder block is 3.560 = 3 and 9/16 inch . the inner bore of the sleeve is 3.370 = 3 and 3/8 inch --- as i look at parts on this site i see the sleeves advertised as an OVERBOAR of 3 and 7/16 which really the inner boar of my sleeve -- can any one help shed some light on the terminology of OVERBOAR ?? why arent the measurements of the sleeves given in OD and ID ?? just wanna make sure im ordering the rite parts first ime around !! thank you .

Standard bore and piston diameter of an H engine is 3 3/8th. Over bore, or power pack, what ever you want to call it used what we refer to as thin wall sleeves. The sleeve increases the bore and piston size to 3 7/16th inch. The thin wall sleeve is what has been used since the mid 50's or so. Also, original pistons were cast iron but there was a so called power pack that still used the 3 3/8th bore but aluminum pistons. Very few of them. Then there was high altitude pistons that used a dome. Could be 5000 or 8000 foot dome on piston.

Just a few years ago Hy Capacity offered sleeves separate or one piston and sleeve. Now days, I think they have quit all those old tractor engine parts according to my catalog.

Then you have three different heads, kerosene, distillate and gasoline with different depth combustion chambers and lengths of valves.

OverBORE means that the cylinder is drilled (bored) larger than original. Boar is a male pig. Just in case the misspelling is what was causing the confusion.

The point of using overbore pistons and sleeves is to increase the displacement of the engine for more power. Most H and M engines that were ever overhauled will have overbore sleeves and pistons in them for that reason.
