International 444 oil leak out of brake drum/housing

We recently changed the fluid on our old 444 and now we have a steady leak coming from the right side brake housing. We are assuming that the shaft coming out of the main housing has a seal around it. There is a round plate with 6 bolts that goes around the shaft that appears that it needs to be removed but after taking the bolts out it wont budge. It appears that the shaft has to be removed to get the plate off. Do i have to go inside of the main housing/ reservoir to be able to get the plate off to access the seal? We bought a repair manual but it doesn't give much info past just working on the brakes .

Hi, what kind of oil was in the transmission when you drained it? Was it 80 or 90 wt Transmission grease or Hytran hydraulic
fluid?
Originally these tractors had 80 or 90 wt transmission grease but some of the 444 that were used for industrial tractors used the
transmission as a hydraulic reservoir and had IH Hytran hydraulic fluid in them.
The difference being that Hytran is a much thinner oil and will leak thru seal where the 80 or 90 wt transmission grease would not
leak.
I believe to replace that seal you have to remove the hydraulic reservoir to access from the inside.

Hey, fourwheelinj1. Did you ever get this figured out? I see Jim put out there about the oil type. I have a leak that started on its own (tractor sat for an undetermined amount of time before I got it), and I bought new bull pinion shaft seals for it. I haven't got around to replacing them yet, but may be something to consider.

I realize this is a long shot but just be sure you are not overfilling the transmission. I've made that mistake and had it come out the brake housing , axle housing , etc .
