I have ground valves on several 400 heads but I noticed on the first 450 that I am doing that the exhaust valves have a reduced stem size next to the head of the valve. Is this normal and if so why ? Thanks for any info !!!!

I would say that the stem has eroded away which is not uncommon when operated under certain conditions. Used to run into this now and then but it was not a problem limited to a 450. I remember one 400 that that made me wonder why they didn't pull the heads off the valves.

Tinks, when I had the head on my 450 rebuilt I ran into the same thing. The machinist said I had to many valves needing replacing to order A la carte, so I went with a new valve train. Money well spent, IMHO.
