Super A brakes

I purchased a new break band and rod and put in my super A on the right side and after getting it back together, the wheel wont turn so it's to tight. I took it back apart looked everything over and put it back together with the same problem. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Did you back off the small bolt on the bottom that holds the band from rubbing/hanging on the top of the 'rotor'.

you need to back of the clevis a bunch until the drum turns free and make sure the brake pedals spring returns the pedal all the way you mite need a new spring you do all these things and you will have good brakes again.

No other adjustments are available. You have encountered a common problem with aftermarket parts. The brake lining is a little too thick, or the band is bent to the wrong curvature.

The band needs to be a loose fit on the drum. If it was a tight fit, there's your problem.

As far as what to do about it, maybe someone else can offer a suggestion. Pretty much all aftermarket brake bands are all made in the same overseas factory and they will all have the same problem, so getting one from a different supplier will not make any difference. When you go back to the current supplier, they will claim that they have never heard of this happening. Maybe they won't and will have a suggestion.

I compared the old and new band and the new band is about 1/4? shorter so it makes it to tight. I can turn the wheel with a crow bar but it?s not easy.....ugh

I have no idea if this post and videos will help you at all. I just remembered reading this and it stuck in my head because it was a reoccurring issue with these ...land of almost right... brake bands. A 100 is a later model version a Super A. And sorry I have personally never worked on a Super A or 100.

Okay as I said I have not worked on one of these but I?m going to interpret what is being suggested by what I see in Johnny?s video even though it is kind of back seat driving. In the video the new band seems to naturally spring together like a clamp around the brake hub. Thus it squeezes or clamps the hub from rotating. You say you are expecting the band to be in it?s released position when it is placed on the hub. I think the point they are making is when the pedal linkage is in place and adjusted properly the linkage via the pedal return spring forces the clamping band to open beyond its rest point releasing the hub from the band. Right or not the intention of my back seat driving was to NOT steer you wrong. Hope this helps.
