240 hydraulic levers and Superior H-228, Help Needed

I've been searching everywhere and I cannot come up with anything (manuals, parts, specs, etc...) for an H-228-I that I have mounted in an IH240. Does anyone have anything they can bring to the table? Any help would be appreciated.

I am also looking for the hydra touch levers and "linkage". Anyone have any ideas? Thanks again,

You cant possibly hurt the shafts going to the hydraulic valves. SO put a vise Grip (curved jaw) on the splines and see if it will move. if not you will need to find a
replacement shaft and maybe linkage components. If it moves, making a lever (or welding one on will work. (ground to the splines to weld) (cover the fuel vent!!) Jim

I already tried to rotate the splined shaft. It moves freely. It will raise and lower the 3 point extremely slowly and return to center when the 3 point is fully raised or lowered. I also have a lever on my right side (while seated on the tractor) that will raise and lower the 3 point very rapidly). I have another set of hydraulic quick connectors on the side of the tractor so I think I should have 2 levers. I think i'm missing another splined shaft

You've got problems somewhere in your hydraulic system. The lever on the side of the seat is for raising and lowering the fast hitch. The levers on the side of the column are for hydraulic remotes.

The valves are all mounted down below the steering console. You can easily count how many you have, one or two, in addition to the valve for the fast hitch in the rear. IIRC if you have two remotes there will be one valve on the right, and two on the left. The inner valve on the left will have the linkage that runs back under the seat and connects to the lever beside the seat. I had a 240 that I did some pretty extensive tear-down and reassembly on, so I kinda know how this all goes together.

Anyway, somehow you've got some leak-through somewhere that's allowing pressure to get to the hitch from one of the remote valves.

As far as finding levers, I do not know of a reliable source. Levers off a 240, 340, 460, or 560, Farmall or Utility or International, will fit, though they may not be the exact right length. So that gives you more to look for. Occasionally you can find these parts on places like ebay for reasonable, but beware of the "parts sharks" on ebay who are looking for a sucker to be desperate enough to pay their outlandish prices for parts. Another place to look is salvage yards.

Thank you for the reply.

It is difficult to figure out the issues when I can't seem to find a good explanation of which lever does what. The lever on the side of the seat is very "picky" as to the position it is in. Too far in either direction and it keeps a load on the engine/pump and I do not have stops for it. Does that sound about normal?

The brochures I have attached seems to indicate that one of the levers up by the dash will also move the 3 point implements. That is not the case?

Thanks again for any help,

If the valves are typical IH, they have a control knob on the end opposite the control link that can be set in two positions one is S for single acting, the other is D for double
acting. There is usually a sheet metal loop over a roll pin that limits the travel. These knobs must be in S or D, bever between the two, or too far. If not correct the system
will be unpredictable or go on "demand" when not intended. Jim

My 2 cents worth: the pictures in the brochure show 2 different generations of Farmalls. I am not familiar enough with the
300 / 400 series (pictures on the LH side) but I believe the hydra touch lever on the RH end of the levers next to the
steering wheel was for the hitch.

On your 240 (which is similar to the tractor on the RH side of the brochure) the levers next to the steering are for the
remotes (as stated by Barnyard) and the lever next to the seat is for the hitch.

Now to your tractor pictures. You are missing the factory control quadrant on the lever on the side of the seat. The
quadrant has adjustable stops for both ends so when the hitch cylinder hits end of travel up or down it will go off
pressure.

Perhaps someone has remove the levers on the remotes to keep them from being used. I see a piece of pipe in the one
picture going past where the levers should be. I am guessing that the loader is operational & you can raise & lower it.
Has someone field engineered a connection from the tractor to the loader?

Edward

Janicholson-
Thanks for th tip about the single/double acting selector. I knew it was there but I haven't checked to make sure it was all the way to double.

I have no doubts that this machine has been pieced together over the years. I can add some stops to the side seat lever to stop the travel but I still want the levers up by the dash to work correctly so I can utilize the all of the hydraulics on the tractor such as the aux. remote. I am almost positive that I should have 2 Hydra-touch levers but when I look at the parts diagram, it shows 3 and i can't distinguish the parts i need from the parts I don't.

Again, Thank you everyone for all of the help.
I had a 184 lo boy before this but it just wasn't meant to do what I needed it for.

I don`t have my books in front of me , but I think the only time 3 levers on the dash would be used is if it didn`t have a fast hitch or 3 point hitch quadrant w/lever on right side of seat. Then it would have couplers on both sides of tractor in front and remote couplers to the rear. I think that`s what we`re seeing on the parts page you posted.

I forgot to add that you may want to call Mike Becker, "The Paper Farmer" (715) 726-1942 from Chippewa Falls,WI. He has been dealing in used manuals for a good 25 years.

OK, Can anyone tell me which lever will fit? It looks like the spline OD max is approximately 1.04" and the min is approximately 0.970.

Someone please chime in but I think I'm only suppose to have one lever up front. There are 2 valves on the tractor and I have a lever on the right side of my seat that controls the 3 point so this lever would be for the remotes, correct?

Braydon, That would be correct. One of the valves is for the fast hitch / 3 point and the other valve will be operated by a single handle up front. You need the lever marked Item 22 on the parts diagram. They`re not really sold by shaft size, just their position on the dash. The one closest to dash has largest splined hole, next one to right would be smaller.

Let me check and see what, if any, parts I have left from my 240 project. I added the second remote valve to mine, which mounts on the left side there outside of the 3pt/fast hitch valve, and I needed the second lever.

As I recall I bought a 3-lever set off a 460 or 560, and I may have some parts left. If I have what you need we can get together via email and I'll send it to you.

That would be Great! Thank you very much
