Farmall M clutch/transmission noise

The tractor rattles when running, belly
pump is out, noise occurs in all gears and
stop when clutch is disengaged. Can someone
tell me by these photos if the linkages are
put together correctly? This is how it is
currently. The yoke is tight, no up and
down play

Check the bolt that holds the yoke for the transmission input shaft. Mine was loose. Didn't really make noise, but I could feel a vibration.

quite the greasy mess in there, least it was greased but too much. front trans seal is leaking also. what kind of rattle?
if it sits there rattling at idle have a look and see how things are rotating in there. maybe clutch pilot shaft is bent and making throw out brg. rattle in forks. those 4 tapered bolts like to wear and maybe they are off centre now. check it out.

The Throwout bearing looks like it touches the fingers. It should have a clearance there. Foot pedal to platform distance of 1.25 inches. Jim

I cant tell you if the yokes are put together right, but if the belly pump housing isn't in there, there's nothing for the yoke to rub on, but those tapered bolts are hard to come bye !

If something in that isnt lined up, it "could" make a noise. Id reach up in there and see if any thing wiggles or has some play. Im betting on a bad bearing.

i did not mention throw out brg as i saw lots of grease coming out of it so dont know how that could rattle. a dry one will be noisy. but the brg. should not be turning with clutch disengaged. you would hear it when stepping on clutch pedal lightly. need about 1/8" clearance from fingers to brg. adjust with rod. with engine wide open throttle brg. is not to touch fingers.

Ok. Thanks for all the comments, I will be back under it with a fine tooth comb before (ugh) addressing the transmission

Maybe we should establish what engaged & disengaged mean??

Disengaged should be pedal pushed I think. You engage a clutch or drive to make something move.

yes, exactly. was getting confused here with this explanation , disengage is to step on pedal. he says noise stops when clutch is disengaged ... well the noise will stop with clutch disengaged. says its noisy in gears. what about just idling out of gear? no mention on that. ok my mistake, brg. should not turn with clutch engaged.

OK to clarify, noise is in all gears driving, stops when clutched, sounds returns with clutch released in neutral.
