What should the compression be on the gas side ? Started working on one that has set for years . It was pull started on diesel 4 or 5 years ago but might have been 15 or 20 years since it started on gas . I've went through the carb and have spark but can't get it to even try to fire .I'm only showing 60 LBS compression on all 4 cyl's .

If it will run of diesel with a pull, the compression is not bad enough to keep it from running on gas. If the manifold butterfly valves are stuck, or even partially wedged open it will just suck air. If on the gas mode, does it have suction at the intake horn of the carb when cranking? Jim

The carburetor has a shut off built into it that prevents gas from entering it through the needle unless the linkages are in gas run position. Make sure nothing is stuck in that operation.

I have owned one, and it has suction at the air intake when in the start cycle and is cranked with the starter. If the carb had no
suction it would not mix fuel. It has no throttle plate; it runs wide open through a small carb. Suction it has, unless the
manifold butterflies are open. Jim

On the intake manifold there is a chamber on the bottom side
A lot of them get burnt through and they will not start
I bought 3 before I found a good one
Starts fine now
