Where to start fixing

I have a 1955 Farmall 100 that has been sitting behind the house, outside in the weather for about 10+ years, I would like to get it running and eventually restore it. I was wonder where a good place to start working on it would be. Thanks.

Start with the engine then electrical if it?s been sitting outside. The engine is it?s heart and is the first thing you need to get working to advance to
the next stage. 100?s are a fun tractor to both work on and use, good luck and have fun.

pretty hard to get an answer to that question with the information required.
is it complete?
is the engine free or stuck?
a person gets the mechanical work done then paint if thats what you want. all depends on the restoration type. i do the mechanical restoration on mine as i like them looking original. paint does nothing for me unless its a good professional job. without knowing your capabilities how can you get a decent answer. one person can tear down a tractor to each individual piece of the unit and do the complete job. the next guy would not know how to replace points. and lots can remove parts too .
so its basically write a story about the unit and your self. this group here pretty well knows each others talents on this forum and dont need a million questions.

I would first remove the oil drain plug to see how much water is in the engine. If antifreeze comes out, you have major problems. I would fill the engine up with some sort of
penetrating oil mixture. Maybe 1/3 kerosene. 1/3 transmission fluid, and 1/3 Marvel Mystery Oil. After it has soaked for about a month I would jack up one of the rear wheels and
with the tractor in 4th. gear, go by occasionally and rock the elevated tire back and forth. Once you get the engine moving just a little, I would check to see if the valves are
stuck. Try to free them up, if you move the engine too much you will bend the push rods.

How about give these guys a picture of it and you might get some good wisdom. That's a really broad question without something to go on.
You can get lots of help on here.

It is a shot in the dark without more info, but in general, get it running, change all the fluids and use it a while before doing the restore part. It is really disheartening to have to mess up a new paint job to make repairs.

First determine if the engine is free,or stuck. If free, change fluids and do what it takes to get it running. Then address other stuff. If stuck, all bets are off. Decide whether or not you want to spend money(and time) on an overhaul. As was said, the engine is the 'heartbeat' of the tractor. Start there......

I have pull a good number of tractor out of places where they sat for years if not decades. I always start at the engine and fill the cylinders with ATF. Ya I do check to see if the engine is locked up before fill but I do fill them any way plus if it has a horizontal exhaust I pour in as much down the exhaust as I can so as to lube the valves. Then after a few days I spin it over to clear the ATF and try to get it running then I know where else I have to go but if the engine is bad then well you know right away what has to be done first

But to give you some encouragement. My H sat behind the barn for years, covered in blue tarps and plastic, until the boys got after me so bad, to either fix it or scrap it. I thought it was a goner. Finally drug it inside. Changed fluids, changed gas, points and plugs, battery, etc., and ZOOOM she fired right up. Has run ever since.

Yeah i agree, if engine moves you will
likely have to clean carb, and do some
lubing like most have mentioned. Take it
slow if your not sure ask, or see if there
a video, maybe check out a few from diff
people. Maybe clean gas tank. Good luck!

I should have said too is that does anybody know why it was parked originally? If so maybe that will help. Maybe simple as didnt need or major issue, either way fix it up!
