FARMALL H CARB

Really dumb question, but what is the procedure to insure that the float rod stays in postion after assembly. Mine keeps "shifting" to one side and of course the carb floods. This is not my first rodeo, but am stumped. HELP, thx.

Haven't had an H carb. apart in years but doesn't one side of the float bracket have a slotted hole that the pin goes through, squeeze it with a pliers.

The correct float pivot pin, or "axle" as the parts catalog calls it, is long enough that it can't shift to one side or the other far enough to fall out of the float support bracket on one side or the other, 'cause it butts against the float bowl casting before it can get into trouble.

And, as the other poster said, one "leg" of the support bracket is slotted and needs to be pinched tight enough that the axle isn't gonna wander around, from side to side, even if it was short enough to cause an issue.

As GAB says, but I'd use a vise-grip.
A vise-grip can be set to squeeze only so much.
Pliers tend to not stop---going too far.

It takes a gentle touch. You sort of have to sneak up on it, but the slot needs to be squeezed BEFORE the pin is in there, and then you gently force the pin into the hole.
