Well- Im back! lol...I have ask this a few times but just finding time to get back to try and start my tractor after replacing Mag. Yes, I have the book. Im still confused. Its not hard- but hard for me. I have the "D-C" on flywheel aligned with pointer. Piston is up- on compression stroke(yes I'm sure). My trouble is it doesn't appear that the points open at this time....not sure when they are opening. I even watch the shaft in the distributor when I move the engine and it looks like it stops turning for a little bit then snaps..... I don't see how it can be wrong- the front only has two slots.... Thanks for putting up with me....gezzzzzz.

first of all, what tractor are you refering to? , MD OR W-30? we went over this with a fine tooth comb i thought and i was even wondering if you got that w-30 running?

Rustred-I think he is referring to a McCormick Deering W-30. Doesn't the mag coupler have a series of offset holes, that you line up, like the other Farmalls, and McCormick Deerings, from that era?

McCormick -Deering.... W-30....yes we did but I have slept since then; and then theres the aging process....:)

Yes the mag coupler has those holes, the impulse needs to be inoperative when you time the mag.
Some of them don't have the lift lever to inable the impulse so we take the mag off, turn the mag
backwards to position number one area with the points just beginning to open with the mag set at full retard
position. Then we place the mag on the mounting bracket, if the impulse coupler does not line up we remove the
bolts in the coupler adjustment and make changes until it lines up.
Very important, TDC, number one cylinder firing position, mag on full retard, points just beginning to open, line
up the engine coupler to match the mag.

Which type if "Impulse" do you have? Much of the advice here is for an automatic impulse. My W-30 has the "Manual" set impulse.

Moll....can you email or call me again...I want to come get the pulley from you- OR hire you to come help me time this dang thing! Would you be willing to do that?

F-4 Mags come with either a Manual or Automatic set impulse. My W-30 has a F-4 mag with manual set impulse.
