F-4 Magnetos...Need a Few

Been working on a couple F-4 Mags for my F-14 and my Nephew's FFA project '34 F-12.

So far all 5 Mags I've attempted to tear down have sat waaay to long outside and the armature shafts are hopelessly stuck. I do have a decent assortment of the rest of the parts to build a couple, including caps.

Anybody have a few parts mags or dead F-4's they would part with reasonably? Yes, I realize one can be purchased rebuilt, but that's really not in the budget cards for my Nephews FFA project. In a previous lifetime, I rebuilt mags, so I do indeed still have the skills and tools, I just am lacking a couple decent F-4's to work on!

They are on EBay and they are getting scarce the price of a parts core mag has gone way up.
You will be paying $60-80 for a complete untested mag for rebuild.
 
I've seen complete parts mags in the $10 & $20 piles at RPRU lately. I had to do what you did, buy a bunch really cheap and build a working one with all the parts. Where are you located?

Yeah, I remember [in recent times] parts mags at swap meets for $20 or $25. The thought of paying $80 for one on eBay plus shipping is kinda nauseating - I think there may be a big difference between eBay and real world selling.

Now, one for $25 and shipping in a post office flat rate box I could live with.
 
Unless you're willing to make "chugga-chugga-chugga" noises while pushing your nephew around on his painted-up-but-not-running tractor, you might have to suck it up and take what you can get. Swap meet season is a long way off.

Keep your eye on ebay though. The good deals are gone quickly. If you check 3-4 times a day and don't hesitate when you see something you might just be able to snipe it.

There are quite a few slimy parts jockeys on ebay, advertising things at way overinflated prices hoping to hook some sucker that either doesn't know he's paying too much or is so desperate for a particular part that he'll pay anything.
 
I saw one F4 on ebay this morning for $24.95 buy it now. I'm always looking for H4 mags. Ebay emails me every morning with the new mag listings. I have bought H4 mags for as little as $12 off ebay and they worked after the points were cleaned. I have also watched H4 mags on ebay sell for $80+ stright off a non running tractor. You just have to watch.
 

What parts exactly do you need? I dont have a complete one to let go of but i do have a bucket of parts. Im in indianapolis.

I have some good f-4 mags that may need a coil. I could probably fix you up with one
stripped down to the case and armature that would not be stuck but could use cleanup.
I have resurrected some stuck mags but know what you mean about the crusty ones where
corrosion has gotten in between the magnet and the housing, crushing the housing enough
to make the armature not spin when the magnet is installed.
