12volt conversion volt meter

when doing a 12 volt conversion , cant you use a volt meter instead of a amp meter? i'd rather no that my battery is charging with 14 volts than worrying about how many amps i have.

Yes, that is fine.

You will need to connect the wires together that went through the old volt meter, you can run a wire off that junction to the + side of the new voltmeter and ground the -

I want to correct my statement, power the voltmeter after the ignition switch so it does not load the battery when not in use.

I use a volt meter on everything. I like it because when I turn the switch on I know the charge status of my battery. Then when I start it shows the charging system is working.

These are in my truck. Built the green one
into the bottom of the ash tray. It is on
Ebay and is cheep enough. Very acurate down
to a tenth of a volt. You can leave it on
24/7 and nothing is bothered. They come in
several colors but I have found the green is
the best. Day and night you can see it clear
as a bell. Look on Ebay. Number
122063408950. Then select color and how
many. There are all kinds to look at but
this type has worked very nicely. By the
way, do not get the one with a bunch of leds
around the edge to make an analog sweep. You
can't see it in the day time.
