Farmall 300 Oil gauge question

On my Cub the oil gauge drops to zero when the tractor is off. On my 300 it is always around the L in Oil when running or when shut off. Is this how it is supposed to be? If not new gauge or what should I do?

A gauge that does not move is stuck. A new one is in order. Sold on this site! A 300 usually carries 75PSI at full RPM and 1/2
scale at idle when warmed up. Jim

The gauge is attached with threads to the tube. Make sure the tube is not kinked by briefly starting the engine with a dry rag
over the end of the tube to assure it is open. Jim
