distributor question

I bought a non running Farmall 100 last year and the distributor has been mounted such that the clips that hold the cap are in the 9 and 3 o'clock positions instead of the normal 12 and 6. That puts the #1
plug wire at 11 o'clock instead of 1. My question is does it matter so long as the wires are connected to the correct cylinders. Does being off that much affect the weights inside. I've never worked on a
distributor other than to set timing and change points. It sure is a pain to connect the clip that is on the motor side of the cap.
 
It doesn't matter as long as the correct plug wires are connected to correct spot on cap.

You could however get the distributor in the correct position. By making sure the tractor is at #1TDC and remove or turn the distributor until it shows it is in place of 1 o'clock and ready to fire and move your plug wires accordingly in the correct firing order 1-3-4-2. Then you can do your fine tuning timing while tractor is running. Hope that helps.
 
As long as the firing order is correct any one of the 4 nipples on the cap can be #1. Every thing will work just fine as long as the firing order is correct
 
it dont matter on running . but the distributors have a master spot from factory. they are all the same spot on all tractors from this era, with the points wire bolt on dist. going to coil sitting exactly at 3 oclock position . every thing is nice and neat . that is one of the first things that jumps out at me when viewing a tractor.
easy to put back where it belongs.
