47 Farmall Cub

I have a 1947 Farmall Cub tractor with a carburetor problem. The engine just quits because the carburetor seems to have run out of gas. I think the float is sticking, because I have checked the fuel lines and they are clear, free flowing, and gaskets are tight. So I have decided to look for a new carburetor. Which carburetor will work best for my engine serial#(60cu 200 14532x), casting date 2-12-x, part#(355741 R6), an IH 3/4" or a Zenith 3/4" updraft carburetor? Also is one better than the other?

When you say the fuel lines are clear did you run the gas through the carb and out the drain plug. Its possible the float is sticking to the sides of the bowl as there is not much clearance. You want to make
sure its set for the correct height too. I had that problem after rebuilding mine. Personally I think the IH carb on those tractors are crap.

I have tried running the engine with the gas cap off, and inlet rubber hose also off. The carburetor still runs run out of gas.

i would try doing a litte snooping before i would replace the carb. first, as soon as the engine starts to die, fiddle with the choke to see if you can keep it running, or, remove the intake hose off the carb and have an aerosol can of gumout carb cleaner handy. when it starts to die, spray some carb cleaner in the carb and see if you can keep it running on carb cleaner. if neither show any improvement and it just plain dies, i would look to an ignition issue. if i remember on my cub, there is a drain plug on the bottom of the carb bowl. try removing it and let the fuel run into a can for a minute or two. if you get a good steady stream, i would lean again toward and ignition issue. also, try removing the oil cup on the air cleaner and see how it runs with the cup off. could be a plugged up air cleaner too.

Look in your gas tank with a flash light there may be some thing in there that gets sucked over the gas line intake when the tractor quits it floats off had that happen once with a WD45. good luck

Have you looked at the brass fitting between the carb and the fuel line that little screen could be plugged.

Seen more then one that was rebuilt but who ever did it missed something. One other thing to try is pull the carb drain plug and make sure you have a good steady flow of gas that will fill a pint jar in less then 3 minutes

I took part of a funnel out of a 300 gas tank once and another time I too a corn cob out of a M gas tank. Flys/bugs/rust can also get in and plug the fuel inlet. My findings.

I took the float bowl drain plug out and did get a steady flow of gas from the float bowl. This should mean that both float and needle seat are working. Next I took the carburetor apart and inspected it carefully. I found the idling tube plugged, and the float bowl vent plugged, so I totally cleaned and blew out the carburetor. I have run the Cub tractor since for over four hours and am happy with the results, running good.
Thanks for all the ideas and help.
