Temp Gauge Leaking

I ordered a temp gauge for a 1955 Farmall 100. It leaks at the bushing where the wire protrudes. Do I need to install an o-ring on the probe?

no, its just those cheap quality heat guages from tiawon. i ordered some and had a lot of trouble with them. i specify'ed i wanted ones made in u.s. use some never seize on the treads and tighten snug.

I think you need the o-ring if it won't seal because the seal is made on a flange made into the bulb. put o-ring over the end of the bulb and slide it up to the flange, then thread it into the block. It will seal.

I put one in my 960 ford. bought it from a ford dealer. it leaked like that. I called the ford dealer and he said it should work fine. did some checking on the internet. found an article on the net where an old time was talking about a flange that was in there that alots of tims get lost when the old one was pulled out and if an new one leaks then put an o-ring in it. I did and its never leaked. over 2 years now.
