I?ve got a new to me 4166. 4800 hours and runs great. Straight as an arrow and all systems seem
To work. Not many around my parts so I don?t know a lot about them. I have a couple questions I was hoping to get some answers to if I could. First, the steering works great when moving. Steers easily both ways. However when stopped, it?s next to impossible to turn. I?ve checked and filled the hydraulic oil and nothin seems to change it. Any thoughts? Second, there?s a growling noise when the tractor moves and it seems to labor a little when trying to get going in road gears. Possibly a bearing bad in the transmission somewhere? Last I notice that when the engine is running at higher rpms it?s a little more difficult to change from forward to reverse, however at an idle it always shifts great? Thanks for any and all help. If there?s any quirks or anything else you guys can think of that would be of value please let me know. Thanks!!

The steering linkage was the weak part on those and the 4100 tractors. That long link underneath with the valve in the middle will bend quite easy. When that happens it will drive all squirrely. As for the turning when stopped I would avoid that for the previously mentioned link. Ours would steer ok setting still though not practiced. Been a long time since used still here.
