MW hand clutch advice

Looking for advice on this hand clutch on my WD6. The clutch does not snap-over forward to the engaged position. I have to tie the lever in the forward position to operate the tractor. I adjusted the locknut to have 30 lbs. pull at the lever. There is aprx. 5/16? thread showing at the locknut. Is this problem due to wear in the cam assembly? When the lever is in the rear position, pausing the tractor, would the ball bearings be in the shallow section of their groove? Thanks for any advice!

I don't recall off hand but 5/16 showing may be near the end of the clutch plate life.

The discs are only 1/4 thick & the steel plates are thinner so it don't take much wear and you have an issue.

You may want to pull it apart and look inside.

The pics look OK to me but you can put the balls in and see if it works on the bench.

Thanks for the advice! The discs measure 3/16? thick. The steel plates have a lot of pitting. I have sanded one of them which you can see in the
picture. I can continue to sand but do not expect to remove very much of the pitting without thinning out the plate quite a bit. I can then
reassemble and see what happens. Does this sound reasonable? Thanks!

Post a pic of the fibers, you really need new steel plates.

It it 3 or 4 fibers?

I think Bates & Vollbrachts have the plates but they are pricey.

Do you have a manual for them???

The parts place in Lennon, MI has them if you don't.

If everything is right, you build the unit on the bench & then install it or you have the balls out of position. there will be very few threads showing after installed & adjusted.

I assume you put some grease on these 15 ball bearings when putting these two halves together, is that correct? Thanks!
