Hydralic pump in scrap bin.

I loaded my grain truck with scrap iron.I had a lot of scrap,it was time to haul it off.I toss scrap into an old pickup box. It was overflowing.....Down in the pile a ways was a live hydraulic pump for an M/sM/400....I have no idea how it got there.I don't remember ever having a loose one.I know I didn't take it off a tractor. That is something I would have saved, put up on the shelf.I wonder if it's any good? how do I tell, short of bolting it to a tractor? If it works, what a find! Steve

Spray some sea foam etc in to coat things. When shaft is turned should be hard to hold thumb on outlet. It works on a new pump. Friend showed me over 30 years ago.

Unfortunately, those pumps are throwaway, and it was probably where it belonged. As they run upwards of $1000 to replace, it's not likely that someone would remove a perfectly good one and toss it in the scrap pile.

They'll just up and stop pumping. I believe the shaft or bushing starts to wear, the gears get off-center, and chew out the inside of the housing. It doesn't take much, but it ruins the whole pump.

good things are saved for sow long and then its time to go. ive save things for 20 yrs and then tosted them. with in 6 months I was looking for them. sew now I don't throw anything sway. Bob

Amen on that Bob, I done the same thing, so now I keep everything that I think I may need someday. Funny thing is that the people who think I am crazy for having so much "junk" around are the ones who come to me looking for parts.

Do not throw things like that away, ever. My grandpa used to work for a Jamesway (barn cleaners, unloaders, chutes) dealer and he had ten Volumaxx gearboxes. He threw them all away, and a week later the silo on our farm broke down....luckily, he fixed it but still, always have spare. And make sure they can be saved quickly if there?s fire.

At work we moved the shop to a different part of the building and I told the folks there to get rid of anything that they'd never used and were sure we'd never use again. They filled a small dumpster, and the new space looked a whole lot cleaner and more organized. But within six months we'd spent literally thousands of dollars re-purchasing new copies of stuff that had been thrown out or given away.
