Super C Touch Control Right Lever Suddenly Stuck Down? Help!

As they say on the radio: long time listener; first time caller

Was plowing snow last week with my Super C with fast hitch, and a couple of times over the course of an hour or two the right touch control lever would sort of stick at the bottom: with the rocker arms to the rear. But I didn?t think too much about it, because it seemed like if I gave it a good couple of wiggles it would un stick itself and go back to working fine.

Today was plowing snow again, and she worked fine for an hour or so, up and down no problem and then all of a sudden I moved the lever to to the rear to drop the plow and she stuck firm and ain?t moving. Other lever and rocker arm work fine, as does the remote cylinder that raises the fast hitch in the back.

There is a lot of information on here about complete rebuilds, and about fixing hydraulics when nothing works, but couldn?t find anything on this problem.

I am willing to tear down the whole system and rebuild it, and plan on doing so eventually, but I would rather not do it right now if I can avoid it. Never gotten into the hydraulics system and it is gonna be a learning experience I kinda don?t have time for right now.

Any thoughts or guesses or random advice would be really welcome.

At least the plow is stuck in the down position so I could finish the driveway

You asked for random advice-here's mine. You were plowing snow. Nothing works good, in the cold. Can you get her in where it's good and warm, and let everything thaw out, and dry out, and give it another try. Your problem might go away.

change fluid and claen filter...also a small filter by battery on hydro. block under allen head.....dewy

To add what Loren said and my view is you my have had some condensation in the touch control block. I have had mine apart and it is full of passages and moving parts. I had mine out of the garage last Saturday. It was air temp of like 5 deg. and feels like -11 deg. Everything including me moved real slow.

I doubt that it would freeze after running for an hour. If it was a temperature problem, it should get better after running.

Since the lever isn't moving, I suspect a problem in the mechanical linkage that ties the lever, valve and cylinder together. Look in from the front side and see if something is coming loose. Wiggle the lever to see if you can spot something binding.

Sounds to me like something might be coming apart in the linkage to the control valve maybe back in behind those touch control arms.

The way you stated it I assume it is the hand control lever that is sticking, not the rockshaft or lifts. if that is correct, look at the lever pivot and check the play in the rod when you try to move the lever to see if the problem is the pivot or in the TC unit. If the hand lever is moving but not the rockshaft, be sure it is greased and the blade pivots not binding.

Thank you guys for all the help and suggestions! This form is fantastic.

Sounds like it unless you guys think there?s a filter change and fluid change will solve my problem I?m going to have to pull the battery and gas tank and get into the block.

One more thing I want to throw into the mix is that I recently re-configured the plow to make it left tire Thank you guys for all the help and suggestions! This form is fantastic.

One more thing I want to throw into the mix is that I recently re-configured the plow to make it left higher. This put more strain on the hydraulics. She didn?t seem to have any problem all lifting the extra weight but there was more weight put on.

Guess I have to get into the hydraulic project sooner than I thought?

If I recall correctly, the movement of the hand lever and control valve for the piston, is tied to the movement of the piston/rockshaft by a linkage. If that linkage is out of adjustment, loose or broken ...

(quoted from post at 21:59:05 01/21/18) Assuming I need to pull the battery and fuel tank before I get into any of this, yes?

I think you can leave the battery in place. The gas tank needs to come off.

Found the problem. Hilarious. Squirrel hid a walnut inside the touch control system in the one spot you can?t see until the whole thing is taken apart.
