Engine Swaps Farmall 340

Just wondering what engines would bolt into a Farmall 340 Row Crop? Will a C 200 fit? Thanks

I think with a 340 you are limited to the IH 113-153 series of motors that use the angular versus round style bell housing. Can not remember which ones are angular but the C, Super C, 200 are all round.

c135 from a 340 or c153 from a 504 may look at a c200 from a 544.theonly engine I am sure fits would be the c135 from a 340 the c135 from a 404 will not fit. The f340 used a rearend from 300-350 farmalls but the frontend from a C-230 bolted to the engine block.

This is correct. The C135 block for the 340 has a completely different rear mounting area and fits that tractor only. A C153 out of a 504 Utility might work, and a C135 out of a 330 Utility might also work.

The 330/340/504 line of tractors are kind of orphans. They are kind of a mutt tractor with a Super C front end mated to a 350/460 rear end, but they changed where they attach together so they're neither Super C nor 350/460.

Your options are endless if you are open to machine work. An adapter plate can be machined up to put just about any engine you want in there. Cummins, Kubota, Yanmar, Briggs & Stratton, small block Chevy... The sky's the limit.

A little more out there, you could find a donor front half of a 460 and mate a 6 cylinder engine to the 340 rear end, but even that will be a lot of work making the hood fit and match up.

The C135 isn't too bad to rebuild. It's a wet sleeve engine so as long as you have a usable crank and cam, you can get the pistons and liners.

(quoted from post at 01:06:20 01/16/18) What does it take to put a C-200 into a 504? Thanks

Longer hood, side frames, and different fuel tank(I think). The side frames should be used since the C200 is not a structural engine, unless you have a heavy bell housing adapter plate like on the 574. Mind you IH didn't use side frames on the 606 6 cylinder version of this engine. I guess that without side frames it is a game of chance whether the installation is successful or not.
